Hawking and Curie classes have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the Ancient Greeks in History this term and decided what better way to celebrate our learning than immerse ourselves in a whole day of all things Greek!

We started off by learning about olive leaf crowns, and how this is what winning Olympians would receive. After looking at some examples, we used our crafting skills to create our own. Later on, we tried our hand at some sporting events that Ancient Greeks would also have taken part in – and after our own successes we crowned ourselves the winners with our own crowns.

After that, we tickled our tastebuds and tried some Greek food. We thought about the flavour, texture smell and taste of different foods and wrote down our thoughts. We were most impressed with the tzatziki, houmous and pitta bread – most of us went out of our comfort zone and tried a green olive too.

In English we have been learning about myths and have written our own. On Greek day, we explored some of the many mythical creatures Greeks believed in and had a go at designing our own. We considered what animal parts it would have, where it would live, what it would eat and any other special features.

Hawking and Curie class have really impressed their teachers with their enthusiasm throughout this topic – ask us to talk to you more about everything we have learnt at home!
