Year 6 Trip to London

On Wednesday 27th November, Year 6 made their way en masse to Central London. Leaving bright and early from school on a coach, we made the long journey towards the South Bank. It took longer than expected but once we were close you could feel the excitement rising as the London Eye and Big Ben came into view. Most were astounded at the actual size of both - wondering if they were going to be brave enough to ride it to the top.

After a quick relief break we went for lunch in Jubilee Gardens, where we were joined by an astounding number of pigeons, eagerly awaiting feeding too. One of us even got a lucky pigeon plop on the head!

Then the real fun began. As we headed to the boarding platform for the London River Cruise, excitement reached its peek and we decided to brave the cold and the wet seats for a better view of the landmarks. We sat up at the top of the boat. Our cruise lasted around 40 minutes and our tour guide was fun and informative - pointing out many 'fun facts' about the landmarks we could see along the river bank. 

"My favourite fact from the river cruise was there is a building known to most Londoners as The Kim Kardashian because of its shape" Nelly 6WB "The cruise was my favourite part of the day because you could get quite close to the buildings and we could see the landmarks more clearly."

Then there was no time to pause, next up was a ride on the London Eye. We were split between 3 pods and thankfully the visibility was great and we could spot most of the landmarks we had heard about in our class novel 'The London Eye Mystery'. We even spotted a pink taxi and the arch of Wembley Stadium, much to everyone's delight.

Finally, we wandered under and over Westminster Bridge to marvel at the Houses of Parliament, Elizabeth Tower and Big Ben before our lengthy coach trip home.

The children were excellent representatives of St. Michael's throughout the day, they really epitomised our school rules to the public - showing they were Ready, Respectful and Safe. What a fabulous school trip!
